An oboe is similar to a clarinet when it comes to appearance with the only difference of the oboe not having a mouthpiece and has a twin reed instead. If you are interesting in learning how to play one then you may want to follow the steps below:
Step 1: Soak your reed in a cup filled with water for a minute but keep in mind not to soak oboe reeds any longer than that. While it is being soaked, hold the bell of the instrument and attach it to the bottom of the main part of the instrument.
Step 2: Before the reed is inserted into the instrument, make sure that there is no more water in it. You can do this by spitting the water out through blowing. Then take the reed and then put it on top of the main section of the instrument. Blow the reed and see if the instrument is working properly.
Step 3: Now, press the reed in the center of your lower lip and then roll your lip over your teeth just enough that they are not showing. The next thing that you should do is to close your lips around the reed but make sure that your lips is on the tip of the reed.
These are the basic tips when it comes to starting to learn how to play an oboe.
